hi you all: I got from my boyfriend a necklace with a circle of small diamonds. Do any of you know the meaning behind the circle of diamonds?? Very confused here. All he said to me when he gave it was that he knew I wanted a promise ring but that the necklace was a symbol and that the circle had a strong meaning of his love for me. But I dont get the symbol all I see is a circle with tiny diamonds all around. So any ideas on what the circle means and/or what he means??

The whole idea of diamond engagement rings is a pretty recent phenomenon, thought up by the...diamond industry.

The circle necklace pendant is a recent design that has become popular lately. But, circles represent eternity, the love that binds you together surrounding you in a circle...yeah, it's a little commercial, but it's a nice sentiment.

Not an *original* sentiment. But nice enough. For a gift like this...wear it, enjoy it...but look to his *actions* for the true meaning.

And if you want something of a certain style, maybe take him shopping. Go to an exhibit of old-school jewelry (I recently went to one at the Frist museum in Nashville, TN.) I wouldn't say he's clueless, but he might not be all that in-tune with what is meaningful to you. For instance, you might prefer a claddagh, or a rolling ring, or a colored stone ring.

Sometimes, you just have to tell a guy what to get you. He's trying, though. Good effort.

I know this is not part of the question, but you guys have only been going out for a week! Are you sure this is what you want? Giving a diamond necklace to a girl too soon could trigger to responses: 1- AHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH! (continues with screaming) 2- (silence) ---which means she's in shock. Giving a diamond necklace could potentially freak her out. But judging from the price of the necklace, I think it should be ok. I would go for #2. For a 19 year old girl the #2 necklace is the best choice!

The circle is a symbol of infinity, supported by the whole "diamonds are forever" idea. The necklace is supposed to symbolize his continuous and undying love.

Considering the alternative was a promise ring, I think you lucked out with someone both considerate and poetic. Go you!

It means love has no end. A circle has no end just like a wedding ring.

Be happy, if he gave the same thing to any other girl, you don't want to know.
