Unless you're going to be saying "thong sandals" or "thongs for your feet," I would refer to them as flip flops.

flip flops. why you may ask? when you tell a friend or the opposite sex "hang on, i need to get my thongs on" they wont be thinking of the shoes.

If you say thongs I might think you mean the skinny little bathing suits that overweight French Canadian men like to wear on South Florida beaches in winter, and I'm sure you mean rubber sandals, right?
Flip-flops is fun because the name makes the noise they make, get it? I also vote to change the name of Swedish wooden clogs to 'clop-clops'!!!
While we're at it, why not change the name of stilleto heels to 'clack-clacks'?
Flip-flip, clop-clop, clack-clack -- add 'licketey-split' and you've got a jazzy intro, huh?

well, my mom once told me that if it goes in a crack it's a thong....but flip flop is a more accepted term for the shoe.

it is generally generational. interior the U. S., at any fee, "turn flops" have been referred to as "thongs" long in the past the undies got here into the image. I probable say "turn flops" on the full than I say "thongs" now, whilst relating the shoes. yet a million) it took me a protracted time to get to that element and 2) i could be asserting "turn flops" yet i'm *thinking* "thongs". The definition of "thong" is a strip of cloth, in many circumstances leather-based, used to guard or fasten some thing. consequently using the be conscious "thong" to describe the shoes. And, later, the undies.

Flip flops. The potential for confusion is not worth it.

Technically flipflops are sandals that only have a strap over the foot, and thongs are the ones with the thingy going between your big toe.
