Hmmm... a hostage to kindness.
I feel indebted to those that are kind to me, like they have "bought" a piece of me. And even though i may not want what they have to give, i still have an obligation to them.
I'm not the type of person that can disregard the actions others have done on my behalf.
Seems cruel.
So yes, i remain hostage until i return the favor...

Once you repay someone in kind, it kind of lessens the hold they have.

Definitely. I never want to hurt anyone. Heck..... I even stayed with men MUCH longer after the relationship was over just because they were so good and kind I couldn't possibly hurt them.

But..... there was this one woman at work. She would do things for me constantly. CONSTANTLY. Now it wasn't as though I ever ever asked for her to do for me. She seemed to just want to do it. I thought she was a queen! She was so dear and kind to me. But then....... I caught on. She would them slip in a request of her own. At first I was more than happy to help her out. But then her requests became larger.... and more frequent. I found there were times I had to say no because of time conflicts. Inevitably she would then say, "Oh yes, I understand about finding time. While I was cooking supper to bring to you the other night I thought...... now how am I going to get my laundry done too?"

I would always end up feeling guilty. When I hadn't done anything to feel guilty about. Eventually..... I distanced myself from her..... but it took years....... literally YEARS for this to finally happen. Meanwhile..... I was her hostage for eons!!!

yes, those nice old ladies, that are sweet and all, but when they are talking to you for 5 min about their bowel movements it gets a little frustrating

Yes, with the ladies at work on occasion. They mean well, but....I'd rather not be bothered by them to be honest.
