He abdicated in favor of his married brother in 1933, but became Duke of York and still lived a fabulous royal lifestyle with his wife and a member of the royal family (he was allowed to keep his surname of Mountbatten). No, there's no Canadian Throne to take, Canada has a Queen only on coins and treaty's, she has no actual say in any Canadian affairs as we are a Sovereign nation; if she abdicates she gives up her title as Queen of anything and Charles becomes King of England, not Canada.

Canada is part of the commonwealth,as is the UK but doesn't have a Queen of its own.The Queen however has already stated that she will not be abdicating.
