Speak with your ped 1st.
Milk based formulas are better nutrionally than soy. So it would be worth a try, if your ped okays it.
As far as which one is best:
Requirements for infant formula are found in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act). All manufacturers of infant formula must begin with safe food ingredients, which are either generally recognized as safe (GRAS) or approved as food additives for use in infant formula.
Once an infant formula product is formulated, current laws require that the manufacturer must provide FDA assurance of the nutritional quality of that particular formulation before marketing the infant formula. FDA has provisions that include requirements for certain labeling, nutrient content, manufacturers quality control procedures (to assure the nutrient content of infant formulas), as well as company records and reports. FDA is also working to finalize a proposed rule for good manufacturing practice, quality control procedures, quality factors, notification requirements, and reports and records, for the production of infant formulas.
That being said every baby is different. Some babies can take any formula you give them. Some do better with other brands than others. I've heard many a mother say they tried them all and the only one thier baby could take was Carnation Good Start.

I have tried about a million formulas. I first used regular Enfamil w/iron and then switched to Enfamil Lactofree Lipil and used it for about 8 months (it was better than the regular because it is easier to digest). After she seemed o.k. on it I switched to Bright Beginnings formula. It is cheaper, comes in a bigger can and it has more DHA or the other (I can't remember which one) than any other brand. In all honesty if I could do it over I would use organic formula (Walmart has brand as well as similac) my daughter is now 17 months and has only had organic cows milk since she turned one. I hope this helped some.

Don't do anything milk-based until the child turns a year old. Formula is the best, and provides the most nutrients. My sister used Similac Advance and Similac NeoSure with her kids, and it worked very well.

Before changing formulas, it is best to talk to your baby's pediatrician .There are many new types of formulas on the market very recently that most parents know little or nothing about. It is the pediatricans job to know which is best for YOUR baby. It is MUCH wiser to follow his/her recommendation than anyone else's. I am an R.N. with 30 years experience with newborns and I sincerely hope you follow the pediatricians advice on a formula. Congratulations on your new baby!

My kids seemed to prefer Carnation, because it was easy to digest. I liked it because it was cheap, and it comes in both soy and milk varieties.
