I asked this question previously, and had 3 answers, none helped, but thanks, This car was running fine, a 1986 Mazda 626, with electronic ignition, then the distributor cap kept coming off, clips are ok, it would stay on at low revs, but come off on pickup. A new Ditsributor cap and Rotor button was fitted, no difference. The shaft did have end float, and slight wear in the bushes, i hented around, and located another complete distributor, with no end float, or bush wear, fitted this distributor, it ran fine for 2 days, then the original problem, returned, cannot work this problem out, any suggestions greatly appreciated

Seen that happen a few times. Possible causes are the distributor cap not fitting right. Usually after market distributor cap.
The bushings in the distributor are worn allowing it to torque over on hard acceleration hitting the plug contact points knocking the cap off, The other possible cause is engine backfiring a little.

You might have to go buy a whole re-manufactured distributor as a complete until. Distributor, distributor cap and rotor all together to solve the problem.

ITs a foul format it is made worse with the aid of applying marginal extreme high quality factors. I had that concern with Napa Echlin style caps and rotors. they have been warrantying them for me as nicely the easy certainty that it replace right into a discomfort indoors the butt. merely to objective some thing distinctive I went and presented a BWD style from Oriley and it went 3 years interior the previous i bought the truck. i think of of multiple shops carry the BWD style. I in many circumstances don't have matters with Napa yet that particular section recognized to be junk. I undergo in ideas finding at what i assume replace right into a date code indoors the caps and noticing they have been all the comparable over that 3 365 days era so it would desire to desire to have been a foul batch. There are additionally some tech notes approximately checking the vent show indoors the backside of the distributor and putting some insulation on the AC hose that runs above the cap section to maintain condensation drips off it.
