I could not give you a definite percentage, but I think the usual estimation of 10% is quite acceptable.
My suspicions are that there are far more bisexuals though, especially among men.

the best estimate you can get is to assume that
- 10 % of the population is exclusively heterosexual - meaning they only think and do the opposite gender
- 10% of the population is exclusively homosexual.
- the rest of us just waffle around int he moiddle being pulled in all directions by parents who want to be grandparents, bigots, sexual attractions and all sorts of forces. All things being equal and without all the bigotry and hatred, probably close to half would find relationships on each side but with the current environment towards things gay in many areas, this tends to lean more toward things going down the straight way due to social pressures.

Guesses are anywhere from 2 to 10 percent. I think it is probably around 5% based on my own unscientific observations of guys I know, and the ones that are gay. But I think most people tend to lump people into 3 categories: hetero, gay and lesbian and forget bisexual--attracted to both sexes. I think bisexuals are a big hidden group, probably over 10 percent of the population- who enjoy sex with anyone anywhere, and aren't hung up on just one sex at the exclusion of the other.

actually, that 10% number was long ago shown to be an overestimate. The number is closer to 2%, but even that is somewhat questionable.
The problem is one of taxonomy, of classification. Just how does one define homosexuality? Some people are clearly, even proudly homosexual, but some are unhappy with their homosexuality (even if some disagree with Dr. Nicolosi's thesis that homosexuals who are not "gay" can be psychotherapeutically changed, no one seems to disagree that there are homosexuals who wish they were not). Some are bisexual, some have only a certain amount of same-sex attraction.
As a neurologist specializing in Lou Gherig's Disease told me on talking about twins, one of whom had the disease and one of whom did not, "How identical is 'identical'?" It's an important question, because even identical twins have a certain amount of genetic difference. Just how identical must identical twins be in order to be truly identical?
Just so, how homosexual must a homosexual be in order to be homosexual? We're not entirely sure, so the question, while seeming very straightforward, really is a little more complicated than it looks to be.
The most generally accepted number is somewhere around 2%, but we're not quite sure.

There's no way to know definitely, but it's estimated that 10% of the population is gay.
