I have ceiling fan lights and the only diffrence in mine is that they screw in not the convential plug and twist ones.

i find that you have to check what the maxium wattage is too for the fan, I installed a eco friendly one, of 40 watts gives out heaps of light at night. don't need no more then that.

They aren't really, it's so people won't get confused when buying them. It makes it easier for a person to get a "Fan bulb" then to go in a find a 15 ampere bulb that will fit a certain receptacle.

vibration of the fan is hard on the filament. fan bulbs are heavy duty, more support wires. not sure about if a comp. flo. will work in the unit, they are vibration resistant. check the light frame, it should say what the max watt bulb you can use. good luck.
