hi there
lights should be on 12hrs off 12hrs on no more then that .... how cold does it get in the cage at night ??? during the day it should be 90-105F in the basking area and 80-90 F in the cool side night time temps65°-75°F... the desert nights are known to drop to temperatures as low as 20°-30°F. However, I don't recommend you keep the temperatures this low every night. Keeping the temperature gradient at 65°-75°F is a good range for the nighttime . Bearded dragons are known to fall asleep a minute or two after the light goes off and the temperature drops, and they stay sound asleep until the morning light. So, the gradient at night isn't much of a concern, but always a big help to your beardie if it should ever wake up in the middle of the night and move around.

According to this web site, you should only have the lights on 12-14 hours per day or you will stress the animal out. These animals are used to night and day, just like you are. Imagine if you were locked in a prison cell 24/7 with very bright lights on all the time. It would get pretty annoying wouldn't it?
The issue sounds like one of heating though. If you are using the bulb to heat the cage, turning it off may allow the cage to get too cold. You need a method of keeping the cage at a reasonable temperature without bright lights. Check out the link for more advice on this.
You need to get this taken care of ASAP or the stress may harm your pet.

No, it is not good for him at all. Chances are with you not letting him sleep he is probably super stressed. And him looking inda like he is dead when he sleps is actually normal. They are very very heavey sleepers.
You could poke and prod him, and even flip him over while he sleeps and he wouldnt wake up. He needs 12 hrs light and 12 hrs dark. No lights on at all during his rest time. Bearded dragons have as many cones and rods in their eyes as a human does so its belived that they can see almost the same as we do. Which means that they can see all spectrums of light.
The tepurature in his cage can safly drop down to about 60 F but if it does get lower than that you'll need a ceramic heat emitter or an under tank heat. Ceramic heat emitter is suggested.
They really need their rest. And keeping him up 24/7 is causing him to stress out. Chances are he will stop or slow down in eating soon. So get it fixed and he should be good. Dont worry about ow he looks when he sleeps. You gotta remeber these things go down and sleep for 3-5 months during brumation. A whole 3-5 months. During ther brumation thy truly look like they're dead. You cant even see them breathing because their metabloism is slowed down sooo much. Hope thats good for ya. It sounds like he got cold. Do you have another heat source besides the lights? An under the tank heater is a good idea. They need very specific light schedules in order to digest their food properly. If you feed him and turn the lights off too soon, it can be bad. Too much light can also be bad.
a really good book on beardies is..

do you have any other heat source other than the light? You are supposed to turn off the lights at night. but they have uv lights (they are normally black or red) that you can put on him at night. this simulates moonlight, so it can still seem like it is night time for him, yet still provide him with heat. If not a heat mat would be good, just make sure that it has a sufficient amount of bedding over it so he doesn't burn himself. My best bet would be to go with one of the night uv lights. Hope this helped!!

i have 5 bearded dragons and a uromastyx and i turn their lights out at night during the summer and in the winter you should get night glo from exoterra or any other night lamps because it does not disturb them while they sleep or red heat works too because i have both on the tanks

You turn down the heat lamp and turn off the flourescent light get a dimmer for your heat lamp and use that to turn it down. you never turn it off just turn it to about 1/4 of the way on.

yes, if you dont it can stress them out and cause them to stop eating. it can also make them aggresive. its best to put them on a timer running 12 on and 12 off in the summer. run it 13 on and 11 off in the winter.
