I got a brand new Asus laptop with Windows XP in it. When I turned it on for the first time it asked me to reboot it. I put in the CD that came with it and it started (I thought) rebooting, but then it wrote that it couldn't go on with the preinstalation and I should do something else first. I can't remember what. I think it said I had to download the primary OS first, but I might be writing nonsense now. Anyway, I clicked ok and tried another CD that came with the computer, but it wouldn't do anything. Since then when I turn the laptop on there's only a blinking sign and it would not do absolutely anything. It wouldn't start even the CD that it did a little bit at the beggining. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Someone aborted the first installation, which is why you were asked to reboot. If you left out the CD, it would have worked.

Asus uses a dual partition. C disk is for OS, D disk is for recovery, so you never get full capacity on the HDD. You have to reinstall from the original disks. Press F2, Del, or F12 to change CD to the top of the boot order, and reinstall.

Or, take the easy way out. Bring it back where you bought it and exchange for a replacement, or have them reinstall the software. Brand new, so it is under 30 day retailer exchange and 1 year manufacturer warranty.

So when u buy laptop u have winxp preinstalled in it.
Then u donot need any cd to reboot the computer.
I am afraid u just insert the recovery cd n without properly reading the instruction u just remove ur os .
So don nothing first remove the cd & try to boot if it won;t work then.
Open ur bios setting set first boot as cdrom & reinstall windows xp from the installation disk.
OK & remember u never required any disk to reboot a computer.

When you bought your computer you should have received set up instructions with it that are seperated in step by step instructions. It will tell you which CD to put it when and what ever else you need to do. Rebooting a computer usually just means turning it off and then back on again. Im not sure which type of re-booting you were trying to do?

Why not try not putting the disc in? Actually you should not have put the disc in, as your new laptop would have came preinstalled with win xp. hmmm if it really does not work, put ur xp installation disc in, then press f2 in bios mode (the black screen with loading sign) and then put boot with CD ROM drive. reinstall win xp.
