Well I don't. Why is it selfish because you want a child from your own seed. Stop looking at the negative. No life isn't easy and there is alot of poverty, but there is also alot of goods things here on earth as well. There are no guarantee's in life but given the chance to live is fantastic. Having a child of your own is a miracle and it actually allows you to appreciate your life even more. Pray for the children who have been left behind; adopt some kids, or you can even start a campaign that will help these children to become adopted. But not to give life to your own blood? Why would you have to go there? It's coward...
I've been scared at night, I've been lied to, I've been judged unfairly, I've been cheated on, etc.... But I'm glad I'm here. There are no guarantee's of happiness for anyone. It's what you make of it.

I consider it a sign of hope. Not everyone in the world is a bottom feeding gang banger or criminal. Don't get me wrong. I think those people are the worst, but not everyone is like that.
I am confused. What do you consider unpatriotic?

Well that matters. If you are a person who lives in such a way that brings the child into a bad situation either it be living conditions, emotional neglect, physical abuse, selling the kid for who knows what reason, sexual abuse, just total neglect, etc. then yes it is selfish but the child should come nonetheless in my view. Hopefully maybe the child will rise up and defeat its oppressor and succeed in life.

Sure, but everything we do is selfish. The only thing up for debate is the degree of selfishness.
I chose to have children because I wanted to be a mother ... a selfish action .... because I wanted to have little things to dote on and watch grow.... still a selfish action. I make them happy to see them smile, because their smile makes ME smile ... still a selfish action.
People do charity work, claiming it as a selfless action ... but the reason they do it is that helping other people makes them feel good .... making it a selfish action.
The mistake people make is that thinking selfish is a bad thing. It doesn't always have to be.
Wanting to have your own biological child instead of adopting an already needing child is selfish, yes. But it's not a bad thing, it's natural. And no one should be blamed for wanting to reproduce if that's their choice.

NO! I think that you need to be ready to love the child and open your heart. I do believe that there are so many children who need love and a family now, but in no way do I feel selfish for giving birth to my own children.

Gee I remember Meathead asking Archie Bunker that very question on an episode of All in the Family about 30 years ago.

The only reason the world they're being born into is going to get worse, is because we aren't changing our ways right now. Stop racism, genocide, and global warming, and our children will have a bright future.

i feel that people who arent bottom feeders, and criminals and horrible people in general, should be having children right now. That way these responsible and intelligent persons can be teaching their children how to change this situation....and never mind the whole not having children thing destroying the human race......

Its only selfish if you can not take care of them.....it's nice to have your own kids to teach the good morals to...instead of leaving it for the bad to take over. Sometimes it is harder to adopt then it is to have one.....time and money wise, just my opinion.
