of direction Cheney praised Ford for the pardon. He probable had a hand in persuading him to do it considering the fact that he became Ford's chief of team.. saved Cheney interior the political section for yet another 30 years & out of the slammer, did no longer it? on the time, i presumed Ford became suitable to pardon Nixon. Now i think we are all figuring out to purchase unlikely forward with it. we actually did no longer comprehend merely how a techniques the corruption went. maximum persons believed it stopped at Nixon. Now curiously like we would have been incorrect.Take a protracted confusing seem at how lots of the Bush inner circle got here from different scandals the place the investigations have been minimize short. useful are extremely some them. Gates & Baker are the main modern-day 2. everybody bear in mind Iran-Contra? Scooter Libby? whilst are human beings going to awaken? I nevertheless have self assurance Ford did what he believed became suitable. He had humility & integrity, even however i did no longer accept as true with him politically.. i don't experience the comparable approximately lots of his advisers of those years.

In order to need a pardon, first a crime must be committed. Cheney was giving tribute to Ford's forethought in pardoning Nixon. Ford pardoned Nixon and sacrificed any hope of reelection he had in order to preserve the dignity of the Office of the President of the United States. Cheney probably thought, as I do, that it was a noble thing to do.

I couldn't help but wonder the same thing when I heard Cheney's speech. The Democrats are opening up NUMEROUS investigations in 2007, and Cheney figures to be a focus in nearly all of them....

I don't think so. President Ford came into office with Vietnam still fresh on everyones mind. A serious mistrust for the office of the President from Nixon and Johnson. He felt it was better to put this behind us instead of dragging it out for the next 4-5 years and having to focus energies there instead of moving forward as a nation.
President Ford worked very hard to start the healing process in this country. I think some people have mistaken his pardoning as a get out of jail free card and not an effort to put things behind us, which was most likely his true motivation.

You cannot pardon someone does not have a criminal conviction and it is required that an application be filed for the motion and preceedure. There was a consensus opinion that the case be dropped if Nixon resigned and that is what happened.

I'm sure Cheney doesn't want to go to jail. Luckily his replacement will probably be a Democrat. He will not have the same luck as Nixon.

Republicans always celebrate a Republican criminal getting off the hook.
Just look at the Republican report on the Foley/page scandal.
