Okay, its simple, when i am wireless, i have 54.0 mbps (NOT MEGABYTES, i wish, lol). And when im wired, i get 100mbps.
I get 2.7 megabytes wireless
I get 5 megabytes wired.
That is because of the diference in mbps?
If i buy a 108 router (to repace my actual 54) will wireless be able to match the wired speed?

in response to taba, i am not confusing the megabits, with the megabytes, wut i am trying to say is, i get "xMB/s" wireless and "2xMB/s". The mbps match this, 54 against 100.

If you are concerned about transferring data between PC's on your home network, wired is going to be faster for the reasons I think you already understand!

However, keep in mind that an internet connection doesn't care which one you use, because it is much slower than both. The average DSL connection is 1.5mbps, but the average wireless connection is 11mbps. Big difference, with wireless having plenty of headroom.

Many people confuse the network connection speed with the internet speed. Your internet connection speed is determined by what package you signup for with your Internet Service Provider.
Most residential DSL or Cable internet connection speeds are below 2MB/s(Mega bits per second).

Wired networks, depending on the equipment used, connect computers together at 10, 100 or 1000MB/s.

Wireless networks, again depending on the equipment used, run at 1MB/s (Bluetooth), 1.6MB/s (Open Air and Home RF), 10MB/s (HomeRF 2.0), 11MB/s (802.11b), 54MB/s (802.11a. 802.11g and pre-draft 802.11n) and greater then 100MB/s (not released yet 802.11n).

Some 802.11g devices bost 108MB/s speeds, if you use only thier equpment, like Dlinks extreme air equipment.

Your internet connection on your computers can be slow because of a number of reasons.

1) Antivirus and spyware software will slow down your surfing as it inspects incoming data.

2) Do you have WEP or WAP wireless security enabled on your wireless network? This will slow your internet as the data is encrypted and decrypted between the router and wireless adapter

Hope that explains things for you.......

enable's see, there are quite some issues incorrect with that fact. A. you would be *quite* complicated pressed to detect an information superhighway service to furnish greater effective than 10mbps. enable me make sparkling: 10 mega-bits according to 2nd. B. The speeds you're speaking approximately are device speeds at optimal circumstances. this suggests the instant sign is a hundred% suited and the sign has actually no degradation. device speeds imply speeds documents transfers between one community device to the subsequent. no longer the information superhighway, i'm afraid. C. you want a router that has sturdy onboard RAM. this suggests greater connections for you in the process the information superhighway meaning greater effective reaction time to servers and/or P2P clientele/seeds.

the mbps means mega BITS per second. It's how the internet (modems) are rated at. Your connection speed is 3-6 mega bits per second. The wireless connection runs as 54 mega bits per second (at least its suppose to).

it depends really on what ur doing ... unless ur using p2p to download files and ur hitting a bottleneck ... or u have a network with a few pcs and are experiencing slowdown .. u wont notice a difference ... i routinely get 250-275kbs down on my 54mbs wireless and about 300 if its hardwired on a 5mb line ...
