You certainly need potassium and magnesium or you are going to start having heart fluttering and possibly more serious problems. As a diabetic you need to make sure you are taking a CO enzyme Q 10 to help keep your arteries healthy. As diabetics have problems with their heart as well as all organs. A multivitamin would be good for you. Your liver might appreciate Milk Thistle, standardized, time released if you can get it. This helps with liver functions which is important for diabetics. When the liver is not functioning properly you can actually end up with pancreas problems that look like diabetes as these organs work together.
As for the leg cramps. You can go to the doctor and ask for a prescription of Quinine. This will stop the cramps if you are having a bad spell. But I would suggest you work on getting your legs healthier if you can. It is difficult because of the diabetes. BUT not impossible.
As a type 2 diabetic I am not a proponent or diabetic medication. I realize that some have no other choice and must take it. No matter what they do they are forced to be on medication. I am glad I am not in this category.
I don’t know if you are. If you have a choice, and you are on meds only because you think that is the solution to your bad glucose readings, you need to change your attitude and start taking better care of yourself and get off the meds. BECAUSE all the meds do is give you a good reading. The diabetes is still destroying your organs! The proof is in your legs! !
You want to be a healthy diabetic, get healthy! Stop eating foods that raise your sugar and exercise! Realize that your ORGANS are dying. Arteries first!
Ok. I bought this Anodyne Machine years ago because I had gone in for Physical Therapy for something else and they had this there. So I paid out of pocket to see if I liked it. I did, so I got the name of the Company who made them at the time and purchase a commercial size unit with eight pads. I paid $5,000 for it. I like it. It does for me what it claims. Now they sell a cheaper unit for $2,500 I think with only 4 pads and the unit is, naturally, not as strong because the pads would get too hot. Still works, I understand. If you purchase one and it is the one with 4 pads and you want it to have the commerical strength you are suppose to sign a release form or they will cut the power on it, even with the 4 pads.
The smaller unit can be purchase through Medicare if you have gone in for treatments at a facility and it worked for you. This is my understanding.
This is how the pads work when you strap them on and turn the unit on: The light from the diodes is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood. This causes the release of nitric oxide, which causes dilation of the blood vessels, much like nitroglycerin does. That increases blood flow to the area, which means more nutrients and oxygen. Ultimately, the treatment causes new blood vessels to grow in the area.
I took this sentence from one of the sites I’m going to send you. It is true. It is what happens. I love my machine.
Some doctors I hear are charging $200 a treatment!! That is BS! I paid $40 at a physical therapy office. So shop around. The machine is the same. The doctor just wants to pay for his new house, new car. I don’t like doctors much. They don’t try to cure anything. They treat so you have to keep going back. They need you sick. That is how they stay in business.

Your body is lacking magnesium. Ask your local health food shop if there is any dangers in taking it being diabetic.
For the leg cramps make sure you stretch 3 times a day. A good stretch for your feet is to pull your foot towards the front of your leg and then push down on your toes. Just make sure there is no pain while stretching just slight discomfort.

Do you think you get Dr's advice on this column? Most advices are from generalists (like mine) and some diabetics or their relations may share their perceptions... which may not apply to you, each individual being unique in his physiology and pathology (body-disease complex)...
Cramps could be painful and need attention if frequent.. you should know that the diabetic patient is prone to get neurological problems like peripheral neuropathy (numbness in the extremities) due to poor circulation or what... So I think you may be asked to take periodical neurobion or B complex tabs... besides proper exercise...
Please take advice from a diabetologist or your family physician...

It is neither "hard" nor "dangerous" (translation) to have potassium in one's system if one is a diabetic. Where did you get that idea? We ALL need potassium and we would die without it and it's very simple to put it in your system. Besides adequate potassium, you also need magnesium and calcium. Stretch the muscles in the hands and legs periodically throughout the day and before bed. A muscle cramp can also be massaged.

Everyone has potassuim in their body or they would be dead. Diabetics have poor circulation. Any cramping should be reported to the doctor.
