men supported the womens movement and now what is happening. Women have the " right" to abort a man's children for no other reason than the child being inconvenient. I'm sure that supporting the gay rights movement will have similar unfortunate unforeseen consequences.

I'm straight and I support gay rights.

I've had some really good gay friends over the years.

I also saw the prejudice and hatred that was directed their way for who and what they were, and the misery and sadness it caused them.

I had a gay female friend at college who had very little self confidence and would be reduced to tears by bullies and bigots calling her a "freak" and ranting that gays "made them feel sick" (one of these bigots later come out of the closet himself - the hypocrite!).

As far as I understand it, someone who is gay no more "chose" to be that way than "chose" to be straight. Yet being straight I am "accepted" by society while they are not.

The gay people I know are all really nice folk, just trying to live their lives and have relationships and not trying to hurt anyone, yet they have to put up with so much crap from bigots. So I'll always be on their side to support their rights

No way! i'm extremely happy you probably did not enable your loved ones's perspectives get interior the way of you believing in equivalent rights! If it have been extraordinary for a on the instant individual to assist gay rights we'd ALL be interior the closet. i'm in TN too so it somewhat is sturdy to hearken to some human beings have experience right here.

Uh it's the government of whatever country. That's pretty much the same logic pro-segregationists used. Gays don't really need straight people either, none of us actually need another group or culture, but in the end we all need to get along and support each other. We are all humans and people do need other people so we all need to strive for equality.

Actually straight people don't have to support anybody and anything because gay people can find their own way in life, it is already happening. And if you just stop wasting your time spreading childish homophobic insults, (and often answering to your own questions using a different account) and take a look to what is happening outside your window, you may discover that there's life beyond your own nose.

You are a very stupid human being, if you are more than 13 years old.

I hate to see so many people who view this as a "us" against "them" type of battle. I believe the key to gay rights lies in the straight people. So many of them are scared, such as kkkjewhater207, where they immediately run to name calling, pointing blame, or pulling out biblical scriptures to try to maintain their position of power out of a lack of education. I think we need to educate the straight people, let them know what gay people are about. Let them see that the stereotypes that many have for gay people are merely a small number of people just as the straight people that act that same way.

We need the support of the straight people to step up and say that we need to have human rights...no matter if one is gay or straight. Luckily, I am surrounded by many open minded, well educated straight people who I have the privilege to know. I believe it's only a matter of time.

I wouldn't aim at straights specifically but generally all people need to support gay rights in order for society to evolve. Isn't equality a higher thing to aim for; In this day and age don't all people deserve the right to live as they want to?

You are right we don't need the support of people like you. We want equal rights and the protections guaranteed under the constitution of the country. we are no different than anyone else. we can support ourselves and do more than our fair share in this country. go back to your rck and don't come out until you learn some respect. I bet in grade school you never passed "gets along with others"

Yes, in the same way that whites need to support the rights of people of color. No one is free unless all are free. And of course straight people need gay people - we are your parents, your children, your nephews and nieces, your brothers and sisters, your grandparents and uncles, your colleagues and co-workers, your friends and neighbors. We are the artists who brighten your days, the writers who entertain and enlighten you. We are the people who take care of your children, who drive the ambulances and save your lives when you are taken to the hospital. We are the people who make the music you listen to, build the houses you live in and care for your animals, just as you are all those things to us. We are intertwined. We are everywhere.

No they don't need to support them. They need to accept them.

Straights may not need gays but they produce them and so have a duty of care to protect them.

Gay rights are not useless for straights. For one if gays had them they should not have to lobby for them and, as a "nuisance", would disappear contented.
