When I was growing up, shortly after WWII, I thought that the USA was a great country, a leader by example, to the other countries in the world. We stood for truth and justice, morality and compassion. Now, it seems, our governments' agendas are only to increase the wealth of the wealthy, and to bully our way around the world. People from other countries don't respect us, and daily we learn of more atrocities committed in our name.
To read some of the answers in this venue, I am chilled to the bone with the stupidity and blood thirstiness of the young Americans.
For me, everything started to change during the Viet Nam war, when we realized that we had been lied to for so many years.
How about you?

From the apathy of the voters, to the incredible disregard for our soldiers welfare; if you told me these things when I was a boy, I never would have believed it. I loved my country, we were champions of those less fortunate and heroes to those who wished for a better life for their children. Each generation has made the world a better place for their offspring , until now, nothing matters except the greed and hate. I am so ashamed of this government, and I think it will take a miracle to save our children, I hope it's not too late. Thank you for your eloquent question!

You really want to know...The U.S. is still considered by many to be the strongest economy on earth and if we default, get ready for a worldwide depression the likes of which has never been seen. All of the worlds financial markets are tied together nowadays, and bad news in one part of the world certainly affects the rest of the planet...you should have seen that yesterday, when all of the worlds markets took a hit because of US debt concerns. China will not repossess us, as the rest of the world will follow suit. What's happening in Greece will look like a cakewalk if we default. Our credit ratings will turn to junk status, and we will no longer be able to borrow money from anyone, not that it will matter. We will become a third world country.

I think the "me" generation and X generation don't know a damn thing about history! Most don't know a damn thing anyway!

The US is still a great country! We have just had 40 years of lousy leaders who I swear are imbeciles for the most part! I wouldn't put Carter or Clinton in that category, but the rest! What a bunch of criminals!

We need to change the direction we have been going in since Eisenhower! Like Iraq, we need a regime change!

People in USA are stuck up, don't care about anybody, unfriendly, materialistic, heartless, and egomatic....
No compassion, worshipping Paris Hilton, they hate marriage,
hate tradition. Crimes are going up. Suicidal rates are up.
Won't help the disabilities get good jobs.

Even at Walmart, I asked for help, and a stocker there
ditched me....

Ugh. We used to have people who would listen to you,
but no, now, they tell you to go seek counseling.

Why blame Bush? USA was a mess before he became
President. Americans are so cruel, we don't even have
all black cast tv shows anymore.

Wow, you couldn't have said that much better. As Americans, we used to take pride in holding ourselves to a higher standard. Now we abuse prisoners, hold people in prison for years without charging them, send prisoners to other countries to be tortured, and applaud the death of other humans, even to the extent of wanting to see it on television. We have fallen a long way. I don't know if it is a failed leadership or not. Certainly it seems that way with Bush as he more or less condones the torture and has made corporations the focal point of his Administration. We are in a desperate need of a change. I hope it happens very, very soon.

Government schools and the liberal media have lied sop much that many people are too confused to see the truth, which is that the United States still stands for freedom and does lead by example. Name one other country that helps its enemies rebuild like we did for Japan and Germany after World War 2 and are doing in Iraq now, and would have done for Vietnam had the liberals not lied to force us to abandon our friends. Genocide occurred in south east Asia after we left because the forces of evil were free to murder all they wanted.

look at the question I asked just a while ago, I had the audacity to stand up for the rule of law and got nothing but thumbs down.
Most of these people here consider Bush and America to be one in the same..its really sad.
