The reason why they shouldn't is that holidays have no significance to them so they shouldn't be paid extra for working on a holiday that they don't celebrate because the purpose of the extra pay is compensation but if holidays mean nothing to a person then there is no need to compensate them.

If you want Christian holidays off, you better be one who spends the day with family and goes to church, period. No reason for atheists to get Sunday off. I would rather that members of minority religions such as Sikhism, Islam, Judaism, etc. get their holy days off to spend at worship and with family. Ironic that a non-Christian or fake one can get Sunday off but that a member of another can't get their days off.

I don't even mind the ones who spend it at home but are spiritual. I don't see why an atheist needs Sunday off to go smoke pot and watch baseball. Tape it.

If you work for a company who pays their employees extra for working on a holiday then yes. You can not only pay Fred and not Joe that would be discriminatory. It really has nothing to do with a holiday it has to do with what the companies offer ALL thier employees.

However you can have a company such as Microsoft who may pay thier employee 2.5 x their normal rate of pay for that day. But they may have a non-Microsoft employee (they work for a temp agency for example (this is called outsourcing)) who also has to work that same day right next to the true Microsoft person doing the same exact job and they do not get anything extra becaue the actually do not work for Microsoft. They work for XX Temps (fake name) and that is perfectly legal.

Hope that answered your question completly.

Peace

Yep. Christmas day is a federal holiday, same as Labor Day.

no I wouldn't think so because we all are to be paid the same. Why should they get paid more than me for working a holiday?

My question to you is "Why shouldn't they get paid?"This country was founded on freedom of religion, or your choice not to have one.If they are working, and giving you the time to celebrate your religious beliefs, what is your complaint? MY short answer is, yes, of course.

Sure. If you're not a veteran, do you get paid time and a half for working on Veteran's Day?
