Watchers is my favorite. Phantoms, Door to December, By the Light of the Moon, From the Corner of His Eye, and Ticktock are all very good though. He's very inspiring and uplifting for a horror writer.

Lightning is definitely my favorite (and my dh's). It is an incredibly well-written book. It stuns you with the way it is so well thought out, the way he has thought out time travel so well. And it is not predictable in any way, at least for me, just when I thought I had it figured out you find out that's not who the guy is at all. Very cool book! You have to read that one!
My 2nd favorite is Watchers because I'm a total dog lover and the idea of a dog genius is really appealing. I also loved the relationship between Travis and Nora I have to admit! It's apparent Koontz is a dog lover also! But maybe I would probably just recommend this one if you are a dog lover also...
My 3rd favorite book is Twilight Eyes. It's obvious that he did a lot of research on carnival life, and the research has really enhanced his writing, but it's just another really cool book. If I didn't love dogs, it would be my 2nd favorite book actually.
I've read all of his books except two: I just bought Forever Odd, and then I plan on reading Brother Odd and then I'll have them all read! By the way, the first Odd book was good too, it kind of reminded me of the kid in the Sixth Sense movie if he had become a teenager! But I didn't like the ending that much so that is not one of my favorites.

I love everyone I've read and I've read most of them. I think it was Mr. Murder when I realized just how much I appreciated his writing. A man walks into a room--a study. His description of the room talked about the sunlight filtering thru the window and over a desk. You really don't know what the room looks like exactly but you feel the room, then you feel the heartbeat, and you feel he's coming. And I think this was the book where the killer is really indiscriminant and kills in everyday places where one should feel very safe. He still has me looking around in parking lots to be sure a super crazy isn't there. And I like the books where he uses the government as bad guys and they have technology and use it against the good guys. I do like his later books better than his earlier ones. He is darker now.

Watchers is probably his best book, although I think Odd Thomas is a very close second. Most of Koontz's books are optimistic about life and aren't complete downers like the work of other horror writers.

I have to agree with a couple of the folks above and say Twilight Eyes. However, in the horror genre, I generally prefer Stephen King or Peter Straub.

Defenitely Door to December.I couldn't put down the book till the end.I never guessed who was behind the bizarre set of events. At the same time the kidnapped girl's relationship with her mother brought the much needed human touch.

I have all his books, and read them again, every now and then. I love them all, though Strange Highways is one of my favourites. I also liked Odd Thomas but was a bit dissapointed by the ending. Watchers was also good
