I do not think killing him accomplished anything. He was more useful to Iraq and the USA alive. Saddam would have done anything to have lived even if it were in prison. He would even have helped Bush with Iraq.
Everyone was too full of punishing him and no longer listening to him.
His people, George W. Bush, and the world put that noose around his neck long before his trial began.

Even though he had killed many, somehow I just can't help but have some sympathy for him.He looked very helpless and fearful minutes before the hanging(Of course anyone would be if they were about to get hanged).Me,personally,I think everyone should have a chance to live.I would rather have him do hard labor for the rest of his life(not torture) than kill him.

I have to agree on this point.
I seen the video footage on ogrish.com (captured in full length via cell phone video), and I really had a bad feeling in my gut about the whole thing.
That wasn't justice, at all. For people to say that justice was served, didn't see the trial - because the trial wasn't even DONE!!
It was true, though, Saddam went into his role as a leader as a fighter, and he went to his death, still fighting (verbally)...I truly felt that nothing was accomplished at all. It's not really a matter of listening to him, but it really goes to show what kind of dysfunctional justice system we have out there!
I'm not saying that Saddam is a good guy, or anything, I'm saying that if there were a fair trial for him, that he could have been held accountable for ALL his actions, and not just a sliver of it, in some detail, and then put to immediate death.
A lot of answers went with him, to his death, and that's not right. He didn't get to share his stories on what his role was, and he didn't get a chance to listen to EVERYONE he had hurt, over the years he was in power.
I don't think it mattered to Saddam if he lived or not. He had some words with everyone as he was brought to the courts, and he didn't care if he lived or not. He knew he was going to die.
In those countries, you NEED to be as twisted and cruel to live in that kind of environment. Look at the people living in those countries!! They all pack machine guns!! Even the kids!! Saddam ruled with an iron fist, and there's no excuse for a lot of what he did, but if you were to put Pres. Bush in that environment and had him try to sit in Saddam's seat of power, he wouldn't last more than a week there!
Those countries have always been hostile. There's no negotiating or not talking things through!! Deals are made with guns in hand, and regimes are formed by the day, in contrast to what critics think!!
Sure, it's not right to kill people because Saddam was 'paranoid', but, in those countries, you hear about it all the time - the attempts to assassinate governors, politicians and leaders!!
Saddam was raised just like everyone else in those countries (Iraq, Iran, etc) - with very thick skin and minimal emotions.
I don't think it would have mattered if Saddam lived or not - Justice wasn't served. There are still loyalists and extremists in the world and he's only one of many who will continue to commit genocide, murders, and war!!
Pres. Bush used Saddam's execution in HIS favor, for HIS points, or VOTES!! Bush thinks that he has won the people over by making the comments about Saddam's capture, and now his execution! That didn't solve any problems, though. That only made the justice system look pretty bad....
...Retaliation is just around the corner, though...what goes around, comes around!!...It's all a matter of time!

Saddam was clearly a bad guy, but after looking at the chaos that exists in today's power vaccuum, it's clear that Iraq needed a "bad guy" to be in charge. Saddam had to contend with assassination attempts and constant uprisings. He did so with an iron fist. Suppose France had invaded America at the close of the Civil War and charge Lincoln with the deaths of the hundreds of thousands of Confederate soldiers killed during the Civil War because of his decisions. That's basically what happened to Saddam.

I think he should have had a fair trial and I dont believe he did, even though the outcome may have been the same. He should have had an appeal process.... so much for democracy eh? Here serial killers take 10 years or more before being put to death. That said, I dont believe mankind in upholding justice has the right to put anyone to death. It is barbaric. After all who is supposed to hang the hangman? This is a specific question dealt with in some legal systems.

Saddam did a lot of bad things I don't think it accomplished anything by killing him either. All it has done is give those who hate us more reason to hate us. I think that going from having the kind of power that Saddam had to living in a prison was devastating for the former dictator since he lived in disgrace.

I don't think he was useful to anyone, you couldn't trust him if he was to try to help Bush with Iraq. He already proved he was willing to kill his own people, & did. Besides I don't think anyone could help Bush with Iraq, he wont listen to anyone & he has things so screwed up over there it would take a miricle to fix it. I think the world is better off without Saddam. If he was in prison he could escape, or one day be released for some reason.

And what? You don't think he deserved it? What he did was genocide. He was NO use to the US or Iraq. If anything, I think that the death of their former dictator will heighten their spirits and help them become self-sustained without the fear of him anymore.

It would have been an injustice to human rights to NOT have killed him. <- The exact words of the new Iraqi Prime Minister...and he is right.

He got what he deserved. He is no different from any other murderer on death row, except he didn't kill all those people himself. He wouldn't have helped Bush with Iraq. You actually feel sorry for him????

for the hateful crimes that were dictated by him I feel that death was an appropriate punishment. However I strongly feel that the way and how he was executed was deplorable and inhumane as well as digraceful for any human being
