there are no words to express how much pain is involved in child birth. I have had 2 children (my youngest is 4 months) and I still remember it like it was yesterday. Both of my deliveries were pretty fast so i wasn't able to get anything for the pain. Its kind of like trying to push a dump truck out of your bum. and as the baby emerges, it stings like hell..... especially if you tear. I tore from end to end with my first, and only a little with my second. I'm sorry if this seems graphic, but I went into my first delivery not knowing what i was in for. Everybody told me what a beautiful thing it was. Don't get me wrong, It is the most amazing thing that you will ever go through, however it is a scary thing. The advice that I have for you is to make sure that you have a focal point to stare at ( I used my son, he was in the delivery room with me) I don't think that I would have been able to do it otherwise. Have something that can put you in another place during contractions. Good Luck., and remember that its a short process compared to a lifetime of happy memories.

In all honesty, there is a lot of pain with childbirth. The worst part is the labor, not the delivery (but the delivery isn't a walk in the park either). However, women have babies everyday and if it were an unbearable pain, we would only have one baby. I've had three. Some women can use other techniques besides drugs and some women prefer drugs. Don't feel guilty if you decide that you want drugs to help you through the pain! They are available and nobody is going to think less of you. I went through most of my labor with my daughter without an epidural and decided I wanted one. It was the best thing for me. You do what's right for you. Don't worry about the pain, it ends. And as soon as that baby is in your arms, it's all worth it!

It hurts. I've had 3, with my first I had an epidural that worked pretty well, only started to feel a bit at the very end and felt minor burning when he came out. With my second I felt absolutely nothing, was completely numb. With my 3rd, that's a totally different ballgame. I had an epidural that stopped working about 2hrs before he was born, they tried to fix it but it didn't work and I felt the whole delivery, and it was pretty painful, but it didn't last very long.
However if I were to ever do it again I would not choose to do it naturally, it's just way too much pain for me.
There are a few different options for pain relief, morphine, demorol, epidural and some others. Morphine didn't do crap with my second, I was waiting for my epi and the guy took 1.5hrs to come after I asked for it.

Yes it hurts. Recovery was worse for me, the 1st 2 times. 3rd time i had a midwife and she helped stretch me so i didnt tear - so no epidural.
I used stadol with my first, and i was so loopy from it i didnt realize how bad her breathing problems were until 5 hours later when i finally saw her
2 and 3 came fast enough that i didnt have anything ,and i think i recovered faster because of it.
I was all for an epidural though. I just didnt have time.
Dont be scared. It sucks for a few hours, then it is over, and you have an amazing new person in the world because of YOU! You'll be ok. Think of it as an ordeal to close one chapter of your life and throw you on to a new path.
ps - get a nurse you like. that makes all the difference in the world.

I've had three children and I've found the epidural the must have for child birth. I never felt a thing during delivery and after the baby is born they give you Motrin and your only uncomfortable for a few days.

i debated weather or not to have an epidural, i wanted one, but i thought if i could stand the pain that i would go without one. but, i'm glad i asked for an epidural. i asked for an epidural when i had allready been in labor for 8 hours, and total i was in labor for almost 27 hours. and i pushed for 2 hours. i dont think i would have made it another 19 hours without an epidural. i almost had to have an emergency c-section, because my daughter was facing my hip instead of the floor. so, i'm glad i had the epidural. i know, alot of women want to go without the epidural and have it naturally, but i say hey, if the meds are there, use them! it will make the labor and delivery process more enjoyable. and, without the epidural, i cant explain what the pain is like, but i've heard once the child is born, you forget about the pain, almost like it goes away completley. and after that, you wont even remember what the pain was like. its like god washes it out of your brain, so you wont be scared to have another one....good luck!

The intial labor intially didn't hurt, but as I progressed the pain was rough. I got an epidural and it was a good one because I didn't feel a thing. But the only reason I got that epidural was because the pain was so bad that I was throwing up and I couldn't sleep. But it was totally worth it,because I love my son

The initial labor can be anywhere from uncomfortable to down right painful, it depends on how your level of tolerating pain is. I had a C-section and that hurt after the drugs wore off.
But just remember, you know your body, if you want drugs don't be ashmed or afraid.

I did not have any medications during the births of my children. It hurts, but the pain is bearable. The breathing exercises really helped me through it.
