I like my boss and these comments arent made about or toward me, but I feel quite uncomfortable sometimes. He and the HR director are friends and by going to HR I think I would be signing my pink slip. Should I contact someone else??

Don't eat lunch with your boss on a regular basis. That's one of the worst things you can do in a corporate setting. I wouldn't report the comments either.

Even though such comments are made during a 'non-working' time, they still are having a result on the general feel and comfort of the work environment. It can create what is termed a 'hostile work environment'.

If you truly feel uncomfortable discussing it with your boss and the HR Director I can only suggest that you speak either with your boss' superior (first choice) or another person who is at the same level as your boss (not preferable choice) who might be able to say something to him in an aside that 'came through the grapevine' so that he can start to mind his P's & Q's.

Let's see.... another thought might be an anonymous note? Something along the lines of "I heard these comments and don't want you to risk getting disciplined due to the nature of them." Also - just so you know - an anonymous complaint to the HR is well within your rights also.

Without knowing whether or not you're the only witness to these comments or if there are other people present, those are my suggestions.

Consider mailing an anonymous letter to HR or make a suttle comment right after he makes an inappropriate remark letting him know. Sometimes you can get the idea across to him in a way he won't be threatened by your thoughts or words.

Good luck!
