I live just one county south of there, and I think it is a beautiful area with an easy-going pace. But I don't know of any hot spots to recommend because I have only been there for short visits.
I'm sure it won't take long to learn about the area once you are there.
Good luck with your move.

Hey...there are tons of bars & some very popular restaurants in the wharf area. I was stationed in Monterey a couple of years ago & while its a horrifically boring place to live, it attracts TONS of tourists & is good for short periods of time. There is one restaurant called Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, its a Forrest Gump-themed restaurant with great food & a nice atmosphere. There are tours...& like I said that town is made for visitors. BUT keep in mind that it is almost always 50 degrees, foggy & sometimes drizzly there year-round. Always foggy & kind of chilly. Allllllwaaaays lol. Good luck.

Pacific Grove doesn't really have any bars, but Monterey has plenty of em. Go to downtown Monterey, Alverado street is where it all happens. You can go to Mucky Duck, Lallapalooza, Brittania Arms or my favoutite: Crown and Anchor.
