first off, i hate peyton, he's annoying and a whiner, but this is a stupid question nonetheless.
when you are the best quarterback in the league you get paid that much. and given that the colts are willing to pay him that much, he's not obliged to take any less. what, you thought he would accept less money than he can get? haha i thought naive people were all gone. and there is no way he soaks up that much of the colts' cap, they simply couldn't afford to fill a roster if that were true, so next time get your facts right before you ask the question. he's paid an average of about $20.52 million over the length of his deal, and actually vick is making even more than manning this year. it's not peyton's fault that the colts defense has apparently never heard of "run defense" and are completely opposed to actually tackling. if the colts didn't have the worst run d in the league, they'd be so much better. a team needs all 11 on the field to do their job, peyton can't play every position. and anyways, if you were offered more money than you were actually worth to your company, you wouldn't turn it down. he is paid however much the colts value his services. and since when did wanting to be paid equal to your value equate with not wanting to win? never! he has never said that ALL he wants is to win, he wants to win sure, but he also wants to play and do well, and get paid for doing so. so until you realize that football is as much a business as construction or insurance or any other sport, stay in la-la land

Where are you getting your "20-25% salary cap" facts? http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/playersbyposition.aspx?pos=3

That might be the 2005 data, but I don't think Peyton Manning's salary isn't much different this year (2006) since the Colts didn't make it to the SB last year. I don't think those numbers accord to 20%-25% of the team's salary cap.

Well im sure if you ask any Player in the NFL they will say they want to win a Championship...Thats the Ultimate Goal Right? And i agree with the guy above...No one is gonna turn down money....They Pay him for what they think he is worth...and if The Defense was decent...Then the Colts would be the team to beat.

He's the best player in the league at the most important position in the game. That's all you should need to know.

he has a 95.2 rating in their last four, they lost three. It is not his fault, his defense sucks
