They won the AFL championship in 1963. Pre-Super Bowl.

They were in Super Bowl XXIX nearly 12 years ago and were blown out by the 49ers. I think Steve Young threw 6 or 7 TD passes to Jerry Rice in that game.

By the way, Charger fans, your coach has never made it further than the AFC Championship Game and that was with Cleveland back in the 80s who lost 2 or 3 times to Denver before the Broncos would get blown out in the Super Bowl.

It's amazing how the NFC used to be just as dominant as the AFC is now. Too bad Charger fans won't get to enjoy a Super Bowl because the Ravens will shred that paper defense and confuse that fatigued QB into INTs and keep that overrated RB who just ended a hot streak out of the end zone. At least the Ravens Defense doesn't need to cheat to win games.

It broke my heart when they got into Superbowl 29, and they were DESTROYED by the 49ers. Wasn't it like the largest margin of victory or something like that? Oh and they never won. Not a Chargers fan but I remember them going in 1994 because I am a Steelers fan. We were SO close to winning that game.

Yeah, "iin_operator" has it all pretty much 100%. They did actually PLAY in only ONE Superbowl in the 90s where they were dissected by the 49ers faster than a frog in a high school biology lab.

As noted, their coach has about the worst record in the history of football when it comes to the playoffs. Not only has Schottenheimer NEVER even won a Conference Championship in his entire 20+ year career, he is almost always "one and out" no matter what the record or talent level of his team actually is.

(If you live in San Diego and your passion is NFL Football, I would seriously consider buying a good overcoat and looking for a new job in Baltimore........)

The Chargers have had one superbowl appearance. It was in 1995 against the SF 49ers, and they got blown out.

It wasn't the biggest blow-out in superbowl history (the niners beat the Denver Broncos 55-10 in 1990), but it was the largest points spread (16 points).
