Do you have to adjust for time zone difference when figuring out which birth date is relevant for astrological reading? Say if you're born on Jan 1, but in another part of the world, it is still Dec 31. Does that matter? I guess I am asking if western astrology is based on the western hemisphere? Or is it global?

Yes, you need to make adjustments to work out planetary positions at the time of your birth you were born in a time zone other than GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). You may also need to make adjustments to allow for Daylight Savings, since this would also put the official time of your birth outside GMT. Sounds like a pain, but don't panic though, the easiest and fastest way is to do a Birth Chart online, for example this one is free... http://www.astro.com/cgi/ade.cgi?ract=atxgen.cgi&btyp=apx&lang=e;cid=

Yes, you do; big time. Yes, it does matter. That's the only way you can get a precise reading; by knowing when, where, and exact time. Every degree you are off changes your Ascendant (rising sign) by 4 minutes. Latitude and longitude do not change no matter where you live. Greenwich mean time is still Greenwich mean time. It's global. Has nothing to do with western astrology. Time zones don't change; except during dst, then you need to adjust for the hour.

If they ask your time of birth they should also ask your place of birth - without the place of birth, the time is irrelevent.
