Depends on how you look at it. I use myspace to keep in touch with people I would otherwise not have had a chance to. I've found several of my old high school friends (a few which have moved out of town/state) that I probably would have never seen again. I know all of the friends on my list and usually do not add people that I don't know.
However, I guess it could be used somewhat like a 'dating service'. It just depends on the intentions of the person sitting in front of the screen. Just like chat rooms and several other places on the net.

For some who sign up, it may be a dating service for them...those who are a lot older than the teens. But other than that... many people have myspace because they are able to communicate with their friends from school, family who may live out of state, or an old friend who might have moved away. Its really a way of keeping touch with new and old friends. Many people may think it is dumb because it seems pointless and crap and if u want to keep in touch thats why phones were invented, well think of it as a different way and a lot easier. Myspace is made to be safe, so it shouldnt be dangerous.

I use myspace and Yahoo!360. On MySpace I have first hand friends and relatives. On Yahoo!360 I have internet friends from all over the world. About a half dozen or so have been faithfully sticking around and we share our lives, loves and memories with each other. It has been a great experience. No dating, no arranging to meet or anything like that. I share all of my encounters with my wife to keep everything on an even keel.

I think people are for somereason thrilled to get on myspace and realize they have new Friends and new comments and crpa like that. They have 100,000 friends on myspace, and they have probably none in real life, thats what i love about myspace.

Point of myspace ? Empty ' noneness ' that is hazing over a pool of people.
I have concern of emotional detachment overcoming current young generation, and some of older generation.
To speak of their ' friends ' on the internet, that live ' wherever ' and not to have actually met and related that way . . . concerns me and I find empty and sad.
It's a ' safe ' way of relating, yet very unrealistic. That unreality is what concerns me.

Myspace is whatever you want it to be. The site gives you the option of meeting people to date, to have as friends, or to network with. You can create your own website and share your professional skills. You have to use common sense on any website, and be careful with whom you are communicating with.
I hope that answers some of your questions.

The point of myspace is that there is no point to it. There are yet hundreds of millions of people who have not realized it yet. I guess its intellectually difficult to arrive to that conclusion yourself. You must be related to Einstien!
