Henry VIII wanted an annulment from Katherine of Aragon. (they'd already had Mary, who became Mary I, the queen) The pope refused to grant it. Henry removed England from the influence of the Pope and declared himself, the kind, head of the Church of England.

i think the Anglican church permits adultery because the founder of the Anglican church... which is Henry the VIII is adulterous
