okay so I have a Toshiba D-RW2SU (...I think it also says D-RW2SC) anyways I plugged it into my dvd player and all that jazz and I got the proper discs for it then whenever I try to do anything it says 'THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE COPIED' so is it protected because I have tried several other discs and it always says the same thing.

...I'm not sure how to word this...um...it's not a TiVO its just um...well a dvr like...a dvd player only it copies...um...it's not for my computer that I know of...it is plugged in using the...audio video cables although it can be connected to the tv with a RF cable that it came with...I think it has macrovision it says some thing about it in the manual...is there a way around that .... or do I have to go and get some software?

if i understand what you're saying, you are plugging a DVR (digital video recorder like a TiVo for example) into a DVD player? that doesn't make sense. you could try to connect to your PC and copy the dvd from there. try to elaborate on your problem more.

a TiVo is a type of DVR (which is digital video recorder) which doesn't have a dvd slot, unless it is built into your dvd recorder. Purchased dvds have copy protection, which doesn't allow them to be copied. i think what you're trying to do is copy the dvd to the hard drive of the dvr and then burn it onto a dvd, right? yeah, that probably won't work.

Yes, commercial DVD movies are copyright protected with special encryption that prevents easy copying.
