Different Seasons by Stephen King.

He is my favorite author, this book is a collection of 4 short stories. I can't tell you what they are about, because that would ruin it. A must read!

Another good book is "Follow The River", I cannot remember the author. It is based on a true story of a woman captured by Indians in the 1800's who escapes and follows the river back home.

SEARCH FOR THE SUN by Ellen Anthony is the 2001 Eppie Award winner for Best Mystery.

Donal Yorkson, a rookie cop, is first on the scene of a very grisly murder. He holds the key that will unlock the murder, but doesn't know it. The reader gets to go back through the murder scene not once, but four times each time learning new facts and finding out which of the old facts are not true. The mystery is unique because the killer is revealed and kills himself before the true extent of his crime is discovered.

If you llike suspense thrillers, I'd recommend "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a fast-moving look at the Dracula legend; it specifically looks at the historical Vlad Tepes figure and how his story might have been wound fictionally into vampire mythology.

Additionally, it just came out in paperback, so it won't cost that much.
