They are exactly the same people, namely, anybody who is not of European descent. The former term is the basis of the name for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, whereas the latter term was invented by stupid white liberals who were too lazy to look up what the initials NAACP stood for.

A long time ago (1950-60s and earlier) "colored people" was a term for black people.
As far as I know, today, both expressions are outdated and politically incorrect. One may get their ars kicked for using either one.
Skin is only one color. It just varies in shade and the amount of melanin.
People, as a whole, are completely nuts and a little silly. We divide and prejudice according to race (blacks, whites), go to war over it, etc. ....so...what's with the tanning booths and suntanning(?) ha ha ha

Ignorance.
While the term "colored people" was used in the 60's and 70's, it's still used by people who haven't been properly educated about African Americans. I personally find the term prejudice. The term people of color refers to people of all colors, such as American Indians, Hispanics, Asians, African American's, etc.
Although I am white, when I hear someone use the term colored people, I often ask, "what color are they"? I hope it makes them think about their terminology.
So I think it would be fair to say that when most people say colored people, they are referring to African Americans while saying people of color refers to all other races besides white.
