Gibson all the way...

Gibson's tend to sound different among them, as Fender's are more consistent. With fender you really get a more rounded product. But still there will always be differences.

I think you might find fender that sounds great to you and that is cheaper that any expensive Gibson you have. Or you might have 10 Gibson and none of them sounds the same and none of them like you as your Fender. Or in the other hand you can have several fenders and none of them sound / like you most as your Gibson. So I think it's a tricky question.

Once you know how you want to sound, then you look for that guitar. There are sounds that only a Les Paul can achieve or other that only a Strat, or others that only an Ibanez or others that only a Gretch or even a semi-hollow body Epi.

For ME, what makes better a brand than other is the one that offers me more for the lowest price with a very high quality and durability. I mean, the brand that offers me sound I'm looking for but that it stays in tune for ever, it is beautiful, reliable, durable, unique and reasonably priced.

Regards!

Fender sells cheap import acoustics. Not many folks are Gibson acoustic fans because you are getting into the price range of many good guitars that are probably better for the money, but the Gibson's are of much higher quality than the Fenders. Fender acoustics start at less than $100. Gibson acoustics start at about $2000.

I own both, but I prefer Ibanez. If I had to choose between Gibson and Fender I would go with Fender. Better sound, not as generic.....and gibsons pickups absolutely blow.

I like Fender, but it's all about the sound and look you want. Both companys make high quality instruments, and prices are pretty similar for the features you get. Les Pauls seem to be today's fad, I personally don't like the way they feel. I haven't played too many guitars due to the fact that I play left handed though. Fender has awesome customer service and fast special ordering service, and I know from experience! Plus, in my opinion, there is no beating that classic Fender clean sound.

Love em' both, but if I had to pick one, I would definitely say a Gibson. Fenders just sound thin to me.
