my computer won't load anything it says Windows cannot open file then it says File: blah blah blah. ink
then it says to open this file windows needs to know what program created it then it says other stuff then it asks if i wanna search the we for it or i wanna select the program from a list

Last time I had this problem I had brought home a virus from work. I had all Windows files, but they were "stoned."
Had to go for a clean install.
If you have a good antivirus program, I would go into Safe Mode and run a full virusscan.
If nothing is found, and you have WinXP, you might try going back a restore point.

Sounds like your file types have been screwed with. Go into Tools - folder options - file types and see what is what. Make sure something is selected for each file type you are missing.
