A test in which you are asked to solve problems.

A simple example of a "problem" to be solved is:

"A ladder 29 meters long leans against a wall and is slipping down the wall at the rate of 2 meters per second. How fast is the distance between the bottom of the ladder and the bottom of the wall increasing when the top of the ladder is 20 meters from the ground?"

A non-problem would be presented if you were just given the equation of that situation and asked to solve it.

A test where the questions are intended to evaluate your problem solving skills, rather than your knowledge and other types of intelligence. Not Examples
Who was the first president? Is knowledge
Kim kissed Alex after their Orthodox wedding. Is the couple gay? - requires knowledge and ability to make sound inferences (about what it means to be "Orthodox").
Albatross is to spoon as Lawn Mower is to ...?
Examples.
You have 10 minutes to escape before the Volgons destroy the Earth. Arthur Dent is waiting in his space ship for you but will only let you take 10 items. What should you take?
If the hypotenuse of a right triangle is 23 inches long and the opposite side is the diagonal of a square which has an area of 10 sq. inches, what is the length of the triangles other side?
(I made up two really HARD questions - one is open-ended with no best answer, the other requires some problem solving and some skill in geometry computations - this could be used on a limited time test.)
