The blacks on the city council won't let it go. They are constantly fighting over this while the black section of town has huge problems and should be the concern (helping them would mean more than naming a stupid street) Why don't they spend their time on really making a difference for their race?

I volunteer (a lot) in my area and most of my efforts help black children. It really makes me mad that these black leaders waste so much effort and hollar racism when they aren't even willing to volunteer to help their own people. (thank you for allowing my venting!:))

You are right but naming a street shouldn't take the effort that they have been forced to put into it. Just do it and get it over with. Martin Luther King was a great man worthy of some tribute

Maybe they're just trying to give due honor a hero who did amazing things for American lives and culture ...
Who said YOU get to decide what they should and should not do, anyway? Different people focus on different things, just as some people fight for people with mental disabilies and others fight to stop homelessness. Are you gonna go yell and them and say, "You should be fighting for world peace because I think it's important and you should drop your cause and listen to me me me!"
No, of course you wouldn't do something that like. And if you did, that'd be a pretty ignorant thing to do. Yeah, world peace is great. Yeah, fixing problems in certain areas of the city is great. But sometimes people wanna focus on something different, and you can't get on them just because YOU don't think it's a good idea.
If YOU are so concerned about it, why don't YOU do something to better that neighborhood so YOU don't have to complain about it anymore?
