It's the volume of the pistons.
Does that mean anything to you? If not, just remember that more=better, and be sure to take mechanics and thermodynamics in college.

Liters is the metric form to describe the engine cylinder displacement. The English measure that many Americans use is the cubic inch. To convert, multiply cubic inches by .01639 to get the liter equivalent. Example is the popular Chevy 305 which translates to a five-liter engine. (305 x .01639 = 4.99 or about five)
The United States is gradually being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the metric age. Still, the popular phrase remains the same: "There is no substitute for cubic inches."

You might have often heard 2.0 Litre, 1.2 Litres Engine and so on. So what does it actually signifies ? Liters in Cars and Bikes means the actual capacity of the Engine. How big the Engine is and it's capacity will be known from this measurement. A 2.0 Litre Engine means that it's actually is a 2000CC Engine.

The 'litres' of a car is the displacement of the car. Every cylinder in the car needs a certain amount of fuel to make the car actually go. If the car is lets say a 'v6 2.4 litre engine' this means it has 6 cylinders [v6] and the the total capactiy of all the cylinders is 2.4 litres.
So 'v6 2.4 litres' means 6 cylinders and a total of 2.4 litres, to work out how many litres each cylinder is simply divide 2.4 by 6, which equals .4
So each cylinder has a .4 litre capacity
Hope that helps, [yeah its a bit confusing, and most likely has many flaws]

just displacement. For older cars they use cubic inches. like a Chevy 350 that is cubic inches, it is also known as a 5.7 liter. It is the total area from when the piston in the motor is all the way down to when it is all the way up. They are measured for each cylinder times how many cylinders there are.

liters are the metric unit of length for displacement, style of like in case you hear of a 350c1 chevrolet or a 427ci ford.. you will discover out the cubic inches of displacement on any motor vehicle by multipying the liters by sixty one.. so a 6.0 liter engine could be a 366cubic inch motor

its the total piston volume displacement, EG if you filled all the piston cells with a fluid it would dispalce X amount of liters, can also be measured in cubic inches for american made engines

The displacement of all the cylinders combined. For example if you have a 4.0 6 cylinder, each cylinder would be .66 liters. More liters=more compression=more power.

this term means the total of the engine capacity, the volumetric capacity of the cylinder block, eg if you have a 4 cylinder engine and each cylinder is 500cc, the engine would a capacity of 2 litres.i hope i have been of assistance.
