I feel what your saying, it was just a waste of time, they should have just caught him and smack in the rope lol!

Theoretically, everyone convicted of a crime should have the right to present their defense, regardless of how obvious the defendant's guilt may be. It's called due process and it's a Constitutional right in America, and widely accepted internationally as the judicial standard. Now we have records of his defense so we at least know his side of the story. His side of the story, btw, was "I am the President of Iraq! Kurds are turds! Kiss my ***!" But I do hope that someday society can outgrow capital punishment... just watching the videos, it seems wrong.

For the sake of the democratic process. Justice must be served. He had a right to a fair trial and they needed to make an example out of how to handle things.

There was no defense for him when he went on trial. If you are requested to have a fair and impartial trial these trials go quick if there is no defense. If you are requested to have a fair and impartial trial you would not bother if they were not guilty.
This is why the trial looked so lopsided.

Maybe--and this is just my guess--they did it to try to show the members of the "young democracy"--if that's what it really is/ultimately will be--how due process works. And what better example for their first trial than their own full-blown war criminal?

I am not sure if he is really killed as he was a life long CIA agent. But trail was to keep us busy and to not look at the Iraqi war where very day many Americans are killed and American Tax Payers money is robbed.
