Got a silver dollar as an award for work. Wondering how much its worth. Says Liberty on one side with a woman sowing a field and a rising or setting sun behind her. Minted in 2006. The back is a US emblem with the eagle. Probably dont want to get rid of it. Just curious. Do they rise in value and where to buy also? THANKS!

My mom was just looking into this too - she found some good coin websites when she did a google search. However, we wondered how do we find a good, reputable (and local) coin business?

It is probably worth just the value of the silver content, which at this moment, is around $43. I wouldn't worry about the toning. That is just what happens when silver is exposed to humidity. As long as it isn't worn, it won't detract from the value of the coin. it is better not to try and clean coins, because all but the softest cloth will leave abrasions on the coin.

Silver is running about $12.80 an ounce, so that is the value of your coin. It will rise and fall in value based on the silver market. Put it away, forget about and check back in 50 years!

Silver is worth more however currency is currency and cannot be compared to silver or gold anymore when the US reserve decided to print an endless supply of money.
Prior to that, money use to be backed by gold...now, it's irrelevant.

Well, in regard to it's silver contant , if it's 1 oz. of silver...silver is selling for approximately $10.00 an oz. (the last I knew anyway...the price does fluctuate). You maybe able to sell it on ebay for more than $1.00 but I would hang onto it. Could be worth more in time.
Take care.
