boot with your xp cd, now it will ask you to do repair or new install, go to new install and it will find previously installed version of xp thats your current xp, and now second time it will ask you repair that installed xp, you have to choose this option and reinstall all files, it will overwrite your current xp

Restart the computer while pressing the F8 key, and a black screen with options will appear. First chose to Restore to the last known good configuration. Hopefully this will cure it. If it doesn't work, reboot, push the F8 key, choose the Safe Mode, if you're lucky you can get in and back up your music, documents, etc before reinstalling windows. To reinstall Windows simply put the CD into the tray, restart the computer and follow the directions. Unfortunately it will wipe out your hard drive, and all your stuff, but you will have the basic Windows set up. Best of luck.

When you boot off of the Windows XP CD, during the install process, it will ask you how you want to format the disks, instead select the option that says "Leave the current file system intact".
