And what features do I need? I like to download music, audiobooks, and movies. I upload lots of high def photos as well. Not sure if there's anything else you need to know...

I know nothing about computer jargon. So please explain the words you use. Like if you recommend 20 megabytes bc that makes movies download faster, etc. (I made that up; that was just an example.)

I also want to have a web cam. And a built in scanner if that's possible, bc I want to scan in all my personal papers and throw out what I can.

a built in scanner is not possible on a laptop. get a dell inspiron 1501 or 6400, it's great for what you wanna use it for.

Laptops don;t have built in scanners, but usually HP bundles in printers and printer/scanners with a PC purchase. Check http://www.hp.com
They have the rest of what you want. They also have a CD/DVD burner with "Lightscribe" which uses the laser to burn a label on the CD or DVD. Neat stuff.

Dell is adequate for many but I see a lot of friends with busted laptops from them. They put old junk in their machines sometimes too.

that guy who says dell sucks is wrong, its great, i have a inspiron e1505, great laptop. there is nothing wrong with apple comps either. im just not use to them im use to windows and the office programs; word, powerpoint, excel and such. thats why i stick with a windows pc, only get dell or hp though, cheapest and best for windows.

also i would recommend to wait until a little later to buy one. because the new operating system vista is coming out and there is bound to be many problems and buying a xp comp when you will need to upgrade eventially would be pointless. I would say to wait until like june/july and thats if vista is released in january as planned.

lol i love how everyone automatically just says Dell because they don't want to say anything else...what you're looking for, Dell sucks the big one, sorry...get a MacBook or MacBook Pro because with iPhoto and a built in webcam and microphone, you're ready to upload and store photos in no time and keep them organized too...you should look into 80GB of hardrive space for photos and music =) as well as at least 1GB of RAM so as to access your photos easily and listen to music easily too...that helps to keep things efficient as well....the MacBook and MacBook Pro have millions of color display (high resolution) and are widescreen as well...they now come with the Intel Core 2 Duo, which is very helpful for multitasking, doing things a lot quicker and using a hell of a lot less power to do those things...trust me, stick with Mac, i've been using both Mac and Windows for years and years side by side...Mac will be recognized one day as the mainstream
