There's this cute country song called "Remember when" by Alan Jackson but i dont listen to country.
Theres an awesome song by my favorite band, Avenged sevenfold called Seize the Day and its beautiful. I'll get the lyrics for both right now.
Alan Jackson - Remember When
Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when
Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when
Remmeber when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give up
Remember when
Remember when thirty seemed old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and moved away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when
Seize the Day - Avenged Sevenfold
Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over
I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry
These streets we travel on will undergo our same lost past
I found you here, now please just stay for a while
I can move on with you around
I hand you my mortal life, but will it be forever?
I'd do anything for a smile, holding you 'til our time is done
We both know the day will come, but I don't want to leave you
I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry (a melody, a memory, or just one picture)
Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over
Newborn life replacing all of us, changing this fable we live in
No longer needed here so where do we go?
Will you take a journey tonight, follow me past the walls of death?
But girl, what if there is no eternal life?
I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry (a melody, a memory, or just one picture)
Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over
Trials in life, questions of us existing here, don't wanna die alone without you here
Please tell me what we have is real
So, what if I never hold you, yeah, or kiss your lips again?
Woooaaah, so I never want to leave you and the memories of us to see
I beg don't leave me
Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over
Trials in life, questions of us existing here, don't wanna die alone without you here
Please tell me what we have is real
Silence you lost me, no chance for one more day [x2 then continues in the background]
I stand here alone
Falling away from you, no chance to get back home
I stand here alone
Falling away from you, no chance to get back home

Wow I was just about to say it's "To Where You Are"! But the above poster already said that.
But anyway, I back up his/her suggestion.
To Where You Are by Josh Groban is DEFINATELY the song to remember someone who passed away,
this song tells about how the people who passed away are just still here with you next to you and you hope you can reach out for them.
Very dramatic.
And Josh Groban's voice suits this song perfectly. ^^

God, I'm so sorry to hear that....How about a song he really liked and people would think of him when they heard it.... I remember watching a show years back and the "wake" had somekind of finky songs playing. It was strange but now when I think of it, it was because thats what HE liked and had he been there thats what they would probably been listening to.... Just an idea, and again. Sorry for your loss.

I don't think this really falls under a "who you'd be today" song, but I do love the Avril Lavigne song "Slipped Away". Beautiful lyrics and beautiful music. It's worth a listen ...
Na na
Na na na na na
I miss you
Miss you so bad
I don't forget you
Oh it's so sad
I hope you can hear me
I remember it clearly
[Chorus]
The day you slipped away
Was the day i found
It won't be the same
Oh
Na na
Na na na na na
I didn't get around to kiss you
Goodbye on the hand
I wish that I could see you again
I know that I can't ooooooooooooh
I hope you can hear me
Cause I remember it clearly
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
I've had my wake up
Won't you wake up
I keep asking why
And I can't take it
It wasn't fake it
It happened you passed by
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
There you go
There you go
Somewhere I can't bring you back
Now you're gone
Now you're gone
There you go
There you go
Somewhere you're not coming back
[Chorus]X2
Na na
Na na na na na
I miss you
