If you both feel comfortable doing it during that time, it's fine. A regular absorbency tampon is best for it (it will hurt less).

no, my gf likes for us to do it in the shower then! she says it makes her flow seem lighter and speeds it up overall by about a day. I'm more than happy to help. =)
