The only play I can think of that has many well-known nicknames is Albert Pujols. He's been called "El Hombre" (The Man), Fat (or Phat) Albert, and The Machine. Eckstein is also called Sparkplug. Some others I can think of are The Rocket, The Unit, and Soup. Apparently Taguchi is also called "The So Man" and "The Gooch"

Lots of good ones already mentioned. Among todays players (that is the question after all) my favorite is Joel "Zoom Zoom" Zumaya and his 103 MPH fastball.
Other old time favs that havent been mentioned are Bill "Spaceman" Lee, Greg "The Bull" Luzinski, Al "The Mad Hungarian" Hbrovsky (sure i misspelled the last name but you get the idea, KC reliever) and Mark "The Bird" Fidrych

There are many good nicknames
Juan Pierre--JP
Randy Johnson-Big Unit
Dontrelle Willis- D Train
David Ortiz- Big Papi
Aramis Ramirez-Rami, A-Ram
Zambrano--one of my favorite names Big Z
but one of the bests and my favorite has to be
Matt Murtons nickname of Red.
Sometimes you'll hear the broadcasters say go red!.... He is also called Murt.

Travis Hafner: Pronk. Doesn't mean anything but very appropriate just the same. Sounds prehistoric.
