It happened in 1775, but really got fierce, shortly after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, in July of 1776. It was battle for the colonists freedom from the British. Mainly the Americans and British were involved, but the French later joined in, after the battle of Saratoga, which was a main reason why the Americans won the war and it lasted until the Americans claimed victory in 1783. This war guaranteed American freedom.
