I have a laptop...is there anyway to get a wireless internet connection without:
1. paying
2. buying a whole new modem
?
if so, how? i know there is a "wireless connection" option in control panel but how does that work?

Youcan take the machine to wireless "hotspots",
like Starbucks for example and connect
at no cost (except expensive coffee)

You also would not need a new modem,
but a wireless router you could plug the modem into.

Wireless routers are under 100$ I believe.

Wireless connections on controlpanel allow you to connect
to an available wireless network.

Your laptop should have a wireless card integrated that should allow you to connect to internet, however you can only connect if there's an open port, like a near router, almost every college as a wireless port available for students to use.

Your laptop has to have a wireless receiver first. I had to buy one - my father's laptop has one built in.
Second you have to have a modem that is "broadcasting" the signal. We have a wireless modem in house with a firewall built into it. However, many coffee shops have free wireless services (not Starbucks).

If the motive force for your connection were given deleted then merely get your device drivers CD and set up it from there or bypass for your computing gadget internet web site and lookup the drivers and set up from there. Now even if it truly is largely your connection then bypass to My community places and then on the left aspect you should ascertain a menu noted as community job and click on set up on the spot community for abode or workplace, then merely stick with the steps from there. that could want to get you happening reestablishing your connection.
