I'm working on a monologue that I have to perform in 3 weeks time. The problem is, every time I rehearse it, I cannot gather enough emotion to get myself to cry. If I could get away with not crying, then I would do that, but the monologue specifically calls for it in the stage directions. Does anyone have any surefire techniques that help them cry at will?

literally BECOME the character...everyone is saying to think about a sad time in your life, but that's not being the character, that's being YOU. You're no longer you, but you are now this guy.

step out of your shoes and into your character's. when you rehearse, think really hard about the words you/the character is saying. what do they mean to you/character ? why is the character saying this? just really "feel" the words...as if you were saying them.

...well that's what works for me...good luck!

you have three options:

1) think about losing you most beloved persons.(kinda cruel)

2) Leave and feel you monologue if it demands you to cry is because you will be able to do it.

3) like around 1 minute or so before the part that demands you to cry keep your eyes wide open dont ever blink (thatll make you cry for sure)

Get some onions and try to smell it before you do your monologue. If you don't want to do that, think of something really sad that happened in your life that will make you want to cry.

Try to focus on a sad situation on your life, you could also try to really prentend like you are in that role you are playing, feeling all the emotion and feeling and that might also work.

Thinking of a close loved one who died. Think of how you would feel if you were driving and hit a cute little dog, or if you prefer big dogs---then a big dog, or a baby deer (a bambi). Or think of how you'd feel if you hit a little kid riding on his bike. Or think of the saddest time of your life, or something that someone said that hurt your heart.

Think about a sad moment and don't go to the max on that thought.

think of the person that you love most in your life and think about losing them somehow. noting brutal just maybe think about never seeing them or speaking with them again. always works for me. in the end its satisfying to know that it was just a thought.

find any reason to turn around and hide punching yourself in the nuts. if that doesnt work just tape your nuts back like the fags do it and when its time to cry squeeze your nuts with your thighs till you cry
