Aha didn't the girls in charmed live in san fransisco, I loved that show when I was younger :D Nah, honestly, I've never thought about a stereotype for people there.

It can be very profitable if you live there temporarily and then move to someplace with a lower cost of living. You can easily afford a nice place outside of San Francisco once you sell your California house. But if you live there for awhile, the cost of living is incredibly high and as you said the chance for a catastrophic earthquake is ridiculously high... it really is pretty risky.

Lived in Calif (bay area) all my life. I'd rather deal with earthquakes any day than tornados. We've recently had a few little ones, didn't faze me at all. Why spend time worrying?

Yeah. And the prices. Average house price, $700,000. Still, everyone who I've ever talked to who's lived or visited there absolutely loved it, so it's all relative.

I was in the 89 Quake in Oakland...it was a trip.....just rent !
