I read a news story that when James Brown died they kicked his common law wife out of the house and would not let her back on the property. They were not legally married and she has not been included in any of the ceremonies or tributes. She was White. Do you think this was racially motivated?

They= his family who gained control of his estate after he died.
Whether or not they were legally married she was still his partner and I think they should have respected that and included her in the mouring of his death and the tributes to him.

A common law wife is not a wife, just because it is the law in some states. Might be legal, but not right.

Racially motivated? So what? She should have insisted on marriage if she wants to b i t c h now.

I don't think it was right--but it was legal. It's a sad fact that common law or live-in's don't have the rights of a legal spouse or family member.
James Brown should have made provisions for her in a will or trust if he wanted her protected and provided for after his death. Unfortunately he didn't. She may have to get a lawyer to assert her rights--but even then--may not win her case.
I don't think it was necessarily racial--but it is cruel.

I dont think thats respectful since law makes her his wife..He should have married her in court himself...this makes me think less of him...who is they?

It had nothing to do with race...that's ridiculous. He probably thought that after he died she would try to take things over. He didn't even put her in his will. That's why they probably kicked her out....but it had nothing to do with race!
