Austrians have almost no national pride, and it is interesting to know why, and what they have instead of it.
Over the centuries various territories around and within modern Austria have changed hands so many times because of wars and conquests that the Austrians of today have little feeling of national identity. The country is divided into "provinces" which each feel enormous individual pride in their own past and in their own identity. They are friendly enough, but each one feels a bit sorry for all the others, for not being as proud/strong/historic/scenic as they are themselves.
We had a holiday last year in Graz, which is in the south of Austria, in the province of Steiermark (= Styria in English). There were national elections coming up, and nobody really seemed to care much one way or the other. Austria might come and go, but Styria would always be Styria. And I'm sure that went for Carinthia, and for the Tirol, and for each one of the other provinces too.

These answers were results from the tortures from the concentration camps. They were subsequently given quite a bit from Hitler for he was Austrian, but he got rid of the ones who were not to his liking. The monarch's were robbed of their possessions too.
