Unfortunately the problem I see with thought provoking questions are the trolls that come along and give you a thumbs down. I like thought provoking questions in addition to the fun-silly ones. My views are not in tandem with this web site, I have a mouth. LOL and last time I spoke about personal experiences, I got shot down so what good does it do for the benefit of others when someone else comes along and disses you. It's a catch 22- speaking about certain topics will most definitely warrant a thumbs down, depending on how it is worded and approached; politics, religion, sexuality... all contoversial. Let's see if I get a thumbs down on this too- it'll only prove my point. Great question.

I think it takes real courage to ask tough questions, especially in a format like this. Some people will definitely frown on tough questions and make fun of them, but there's always someone like that. Asking quirky and sexual questions is fun too, it's a nice break, and I personally prefer a forum that isn't completely saturated by it.
It also takes real courage to give lengthy, thoughtful answers to these questions when you're rewarded on the basis of points.

Almost every day I am here I try to post questions that require some thought. Last night I got slapped down for it by someone so tonight I thought I just be silly. It has helped cheer me up considerably.

Yes of course. But sometimes the stupidest questions (and answers) can provoke thought. Give it a try!

I completely agree. HOWEVER, every time I have tried this approach, I am told by other members that this is not the forum.
A friend of mine told me to quit being a masochist and ask my questions in the more intelligent areas of Y!A.
(I do still ask my fun q's in this area, I just have lower standards of what the answers will be.)

The thought provoking questions are the most interesting and those are the ones I most like to answer. I would welcome more thought provoking questions.

That's what I try doing but not a lot of people answer questions like that...It's like they can't handle it.
People like simple! Why? I don't know...I like questions that make me think!

yeah. I hate the same old same old questions like
"what's your fave color, day, when is your birthday, what band do you like....?" I like the random ones though.
