No, they are not the same quality. The free one is only a trial version. You have to buy it to get the full version.

All I know is that some free programs on the same website are as good as, if not better than Webroot SpySweeper. Downloading online will disable scans. You will only have protection against incoming threats. You can't get rid of existing threats.
In the same site, check for Spybot or Ad-Aware

I would be using MS Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, both free and actively defend your PC. Adaware is also free, but you have to open the program, update it and scan your PC. Still a good free program, yet not actively watching and guarding your PC. Adaware does have the fee version which does the active stuff. But all the 3 freebies will do you just fine. (The free spysweeper is a free trial, after about 30 days it become inactive. It does a good job, but becomes a tad too aggressive in my opinion, and then annoys me)

From some of the other questions I have read on this site, I think that the free online stuff only tells you when you have been infected. It does not protect you from it nor does it get rid of it. In my opinion that is useless.
Go to a reputable computer shop and buy a protector. Mine is Norton and it protects me from viruses, worms and spywear. I have not had any problems yet. :)

I haven't used it but I have found paid for virus protection (nod32), free fireall protection (zone alarm), spy bot search & destroy (free), adaware (free) all to be perfectly good at protecting my computer. Suggest you do the same ie not necessarily nod32 but some equally good virus protection.]
To me the important component is the virus protection component and therefore that is the thing which paid for services are appropriate as you can see from my list above.

If I was going to buy software for that function, I would buy the product that is offered by the company that produced the anti virus and/or firewall protection I already use.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

I think when you get the free version, it finds the spyware but does not remove it. You have to buy it to remove it. There are a ton of great free ones though that find and remove spyware! look at the link below, it has lots of free scanners!
